Dirty Girl Run...have you done this before? If so, you understand all the fun stuff I'm about to share. If you haven't, what are you waiting for? This is a SUPER fun 5k run with obstacles sprinkled throughout the course. You do NOT need to be in top physical shape to participate in this. (I'm the poster child for NOT being in shape) There were all fitness levels there and everyone was having fun - the best part of it! :) The race benefits Bright Pink, a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering women to be proactive about their breast and ovarian health. Oh yeah, there's mud, a shit ton of mud....did I mention that part?
Here is our awesome team , Dirty Mommas before the race.

Me, Leah, Courtney and Sarah pre run |
We signed up for this run before my herniated disc, so for me, there wasn't any pre race training aka running. (Personally, I still can't believe I didn't use the Segway) I made the mistake of thinking that the total course was 3.1 miles with the obstacles. Mistake #1. Here is what I looked like after the first mile.
Seriously. Between not training and my asthma, that damn Segway would have come in handy. ;) We, I say we but really it was me who made the rest of the group chill for about 5 minutes while I tried to keep from taking a ride in the cart back. That wasn't an option for me - so I pretty much walked the rest of the course. The BEST thing you can do is to do this race with girls who are going to support and encourage you the entire way. This lucky bitch had 3 of them. I puffy heart love them. Sarah slowed her pace down and stayed with me the entire way and Courtney and Leah circled back (to make sure I didn't find that damn Segway) and waited for us (me) at every obstacle.
The obstacles were fun and dirty, just how I like it!
Warning - you will have mud in places you didn't think humanly possible. Think hoo ha mud mask. You want to make sure that your shoes are tied like you are dating Christian Grey. Otherwise, you could be running the rest of the run without a shoe. Next year we are bringing a waterproof camera and taking it with us, more fun shots of us getting down and dirty.
You don't have to complete every obstacle, there is always the option to walk around them. There were a few I opted not to do, but the rest of the girls did them, so I cheered them on.
Depending on your location there could be a few hills throughout the course. I say hills but what I really mean a mother f'n mountains in the course. Mistake #2. My quads were on fire walking up one that I swear should have had an elevation sign at the top.
After one final splash through the mud, we finished!

Sarah and me |
They have all kinds of food, vendors and gear there to buy and the best part after getting dirty? Free beer! :) You do get to hose yourself (and in my case, other participants...whoops) off afterwards and change into something else. You can also donate your sneakers to Dirty Girl. I'm sure they do something great with them...one less muddy thing for me to wash.
Oh and my Fleurty band stayed on the ENTIRE race and didn't move. At. All. Go get you some!!

Sarah and I semi cleaned up! :) |

Although I didn't run the whole thing, it was SO much fun and I can't wait to do it again! Molly has agreed to the madness and is joining me on the next one, so that is awesome!! Speaking of which...I'm going to be late for my run date with her! :)
Have you done a Dirty Girl run or some other type of mud run?
xoxo,
Krista
